African Antique Currency

African antique currency from the Congo, called Gong Iron Currency (gunga) from the Nkutshu/Jonga people.

This African, Congolese Mbole ankle currency bracelet were used by the Mbole, people as currency and women and mean worn them around their ankles, thus the name “ankle bracelet.” The Mbole, people are found in Southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire.) These either bronze or copper anklet currency bracelets were used for major transactions. Worn either by men or women these large rounded anklets were offered by the husband to his wife to be a part of the marriage contract.
